One of the city’s leading business figures has revealed the Lancashire Business Survey will highlight key changes needed to help the local economy thrive over the next year.

Danny Houghton, marketing and business development director at Moore & Smalley, has welcomed the survey which he says will help guide public and private policy during the next 12 months.

The survey is now closed to new entries, and Moore & Smalley partner David Gill will officially unveil the results during the first day of Lancashire Business Week, on May 18.

Danny said: “The Lancashire Business Survey asks some hard hitting questions which will get to the heart of what is important to the local business community.

“It is only through quizzing Lancashire businesses which are working in the area day-to-day, that we can hope to get a clear picture of what is helping and hindering them.

“I would call on those key decision makers in the county to sit up and take notice of the findings, and work to address the issues raised during the next 12 months to make some real progress.”

Survey could help keep graduates in Lancashire

April 24th, 2009

A top figure in Lancashire’s education sector has welcomed the Lancashire Business Survey as a way to help keep graduates in the county.

Bede Mullen, director of knowledge transfer at the University of Central Lancashire, has revealed UCLan will be watching the results with interest.

He said: “The university is interested in this survey because we want to make sure that the graduates that we produce are ready to go into employment, and more importantly, that we retain as many of them in the North West as possible.

“Anything which will help us find out about the skills needed by local employers is therefore of paramount importance to us, and I am looking forward with interest to seeing the results of this year’s survey.”

Survey praise from LEP business editor

April 20th, 2009

David Coates, business editor of the Lancashire Evening Post, has welcomed the Lancashire Business Survey as providing the ‘good, bad, ugly and accurate’ information needed by decision makers.

He said: “So much of today’s business news is based around anecdotal evidence rather than the hard and fast facts.

“This will spell out the good, the bad, the ugly and, most importantly, the accurate of what Lancashire businesses are seeing on the ground every day at the moment.

“The importance of this is not just to highlight the issues surrounding businesses at the moment but, with the decision makers in our country on heightened alert with election season looming, this is our chance to give them a truth they cannot dodge – and demand action.”
